To earn the "Ironman" award a varsity football player must total a certain amount of weight in three lifts (bench, squats, and power cleans). They must do one repetition in each of the three categories and record it; the three totals are then added together. For a receiver to earn "Ironman" the total amount to be lifted is 800 lbs., a linebacker 850 lbs., and a lineman 900 lbs. (Note: All of the 2000 "Ironmen" are 1st time "Ironmen".)
